KUALA LUMPUR (June 13): The government is in the midst of drafting an amendment to the Accountants Act 1967, in a bid to empower the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) to take action against bogus accountants and other unlawful accounting practices. Speaking at a press conference after the opening ceremony of the MIA International Accountants Conference 2023, the statutory body's president Datuk Bazlan Osman said the amendment is long overdue, as the law had not taken into account certain industry changes, such as environment, social and governance (ESG) standards.
