Majumdar, an instructor with the Flying Instructors School or FIS at Ambala, Haryana, was leading a six Harvard aircraft ferry to Tambaram, Tamil Nadu. On arrival, he was instructed to return by a Dakota aircraft and report immediately to Air Headquarters. Upon reaching Delhi, Air Commodore Arjan Singh informed him that he was to be despatched pronto from Paatalok to the United States.
