May Day vs Vishwakarma Day: How RSS-backed BMS displaced Left as dominant trade union
Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh is the trade union affiliate of the RSS (Representational image) | Commons Text Size: New Delhi: Has the May Day, which is celebrated in India as Labour Day on 1 May every year, lost its relevance? Is it just a matter of time before India would officially replace ‘1 May' with ‘Vishwakarma Day' to honour the contribution of workers in nation building? Such questions are now raised increasingly on 1 May every year as the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the largest trade union in India, has shunned the celebration of 1 May as Labour Day as a relic of the obsolete past when Communists dominated the trade union movement in India.

US diplomats and Denmark PM are visiting India. But one country is punching above its weight
PM Narendra Modi in 2017 | Photo: Praveen Jain | ThePrint Text Size: As US Secretary of State Wendy Sherman presses all the buttons to underline the special relationship with India and is followed this week by Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen attempting to do exactly the same, two seemingly unrelated questions are knocking against the shadows, behind the scenes. The first question is: Who is going to be the next foreign secretary of India? The incumbent, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, will retire mid-2022 and names of possible successors are already doing the rounds.

Harsh Mariwala | Twitter | @hcmariwala Text Size: New Delhi: Training in retail and advertising from the bottom-up was crucial to building Marico from scratch, said Harsh Mariwala, the company's founder and chairman. More and more young British Indians want ‘love-cum-arranged marriage'
Representational image of an Indian marriage | Photo: pxhere.com Text Size: Arranged marriages occupy an awkward place in contemporary Britain. For some, they're equivalent to forced marriage. Others see them as a quaint custom in need of adjustment to the modern ideal of western-style 'love marriages'. However, my decade-long research with British Indians paints a rather different picture of this practice. Far from being a homogeneous tradition, modern arranged marriages involve a variety of matchmaking practices where each family tailors its own version to suit modern identities and ambitions.
