Lost in the Reel's video review for American Gigolo The original film American Gigolo from 1980, is a divisive, yet seminal classic.  It's a movie I grew up on, as it was one of my dad's favorite movies, but I honestly never found myself overly fond of it.  After watching it again before diving into this new show, I certainly see the appeal of Paul Schrader's film, yet I am still torn on it.  On one hand, Gigolo is smutty, soapy, style-over-substance and full of melodramatic moments and cheesy dialogue…but, it is also at times, a gritty, hard-boiled thriller and a fascinating character study.

Today Nintendo and Illumination have revealed a teaser poster for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie. In addition to the poster, Nintendo, via their official Twitter account, announced a trailer would arrive on Thursday. The Super Mario Bros. Movie world premiere trailer will be released in a Nintendo Direct presentation on October 6. This will be the first look at the animated film, which stars Chris Pratt as Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi. Super Mario. Bros will arrive in theatres on April 7, 2023.

Chucky season one ended with a bang, and if you don't want anything spoiled from that season, go watch it first. There is no question that Hollywood has, over the course of film history, made some very poor casting choices. May times it takes the form of decidedly white actors playing decidedly non-white characters. This goes back decades; John Wayne as Genghis Kahn is an easy example. In such cases, the criticism is well-earned. But… with the advent of the Internet, casting aspersions for casting choices has become all too easy, and more and more misplaced. It seems that Trigun Stampede wants to hype themselves up, even though the anime is still a year away. How do I know this, you might ask? Well, why else would they release some concept art for it? Vash the Concept Art? Boy, that hand-drawn sun sure looks bright. Wow is the first thing that came to mind when I saw the trailer at NYCC 2021! Of course, this 99-minute film will keep you visually glued to your screen with the new, all CGI animation. For better or worse, 'Star Wars fatigue' is very real. Many attribute the phenomenon to Disney's ambitious delivery of five feature films in just five years from 2015 to 2019. Add in the renewal of The Clone Wars, its follow-up The Bad Batch, and the live-action Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett series and, well… That's a whole lot of content in a relatively short span of eight years. (Consider this: prior to The Force Awakens, we'd only had six live-action, feature films in the preceding thirty-eight years combined.

Lost in the Reel's movie review of I Came By The best psychological thrillers are able to keep you on the edge-of-your-seat and constantly subvert your expectations… and it's always a plus when they throw in a good twist or two and have some kind of important message masked behind the tension.  Writer/Director Babak Anvari attempts to do all of those things and more with his new Netflix film I Came By.  And at first, he succeeds on nearly every level… I honestly thought that this could be a real sleeper hit for the streaming giant.

The next Mortal Kombat animated film is just about here. Today not only did Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released a new trailer for the upcoming animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind, but they also revealed that this film will be coming to Digital, 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray as well. Starring Manny Jacinto, David Wenham, Patrick Seitz, and Artt Butler; Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind will release on Digital on October 9 and on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray on October 11, 2022. Addicted to the Netflix anthology series Love, Death + Robots? We have some good news. The series just officially landed a season 4 renewal. Netflix revealed the news on social media with the message 'Love, Death + Robots Volume IV is a GO.'  Season 3 of the sci-fi series debuted on May 20 to critical acclaim. The series comes from powerhouse executive producers Tim Miller (Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate) and David Fincher (MINDHUNTER, Mank). So far, the show has won a dozen Emmy awards. Emmy Award winning director Alberto Mielgo even picked up an early Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for breakout short 'Jibaro.

The 14th* Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, begins filming season 14 of Doctor Who this November. (*Well, by the most conventional numbering system, anyways.) The Hollywood Reporter revealed the planned return to filming for the series today. The long-running sci-fi program's 14th season will mark Gatwa's first as the leading Time Lord. It will also feature the return of original revival showrunner Russell T. Davies. Gatwa takes over the role from the previous regeneration of the Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. Whittaker will make her final appearance as the character during the show's upcoming 60th anniversary special.

I didn't, and apparently, neither did Square Enix, even though they teased it with their Symbiogenesis project. Unfortunately, that project turns out to basically just be a great big lie. During their Earnings Call today, Disney announced some changes to Disney+. The ad-supported version of Disney+ will launch on December 6th, 2022. Disney+ Basic will launch for $7.99 per month. The ad-free version of Disney+ will have its price increased to $10.99 per month and re-titled to Disney+ Premium. They're also raising rates for Hulu, with both ad-supported and ad-free versions getting the price hike. So if you want to keep the ad-free version of Disney+ that you currently pay $7.99 per month for, you'll need to pay an extra $3 a month, a 38% increase.

The star of Grease and on the music charts, Olivia Newton-John has died at the age of 73. Her husband John Easterling, confirmed that she died peacefully surrounded by her family in Southern California. She had breast cancer for more than 30 years and fought it into remission twice, but it came back in 2017. She rose up the music charts in the '70s with tracks like 'If Not For You' and 'Let Me Be There' but her biggest break came in 1978 with the release of the musical, Grease. Alongside John Travolta, they took the world by storm.
