Grassfire risk remains high
Picture: CFA Media SUNRAYSIA travellers are being encouraged to prepare and remain vigilant around fire when enjoying the Labour Day long weekend. While conditions are expected to be milder across the weekend, vegetation is extremely dry across most of the state, particularly in the South West, West, Central and North West regions. CFA expects the grassfire risk to remain across the state in the coming months so Victorians need to remain alert and prepared. CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan encouraged travellers to familiarise themselves with which fire district they are travelling to and stay informed about fire conditions.

Williams shines for West
Cricket Mildura West's Chris Williams scored 157 against Coomealla Wentworth, sharing in a 187-run partnership with Joe Fleri (right). The duo are pictured in a match against Irymple earlier this season. Picture: Louise Barker MILDURA West star Chris Williams' century against Coomealla Wentworth on Saturday was remarkable for a number of reasons. The Englishman had been severely restricted for a number of weeks due to a calf injury, he only arrived back in Mildura that morning being in Melbourne for work, and to top it off, West needed to avoid an outright loss to ensure they remain in the top four.

Call for cautious use of rejuvenated flood plains
Farming and Environment Although floods have rejuvenated Darling River floodplains, land above the plains, such as at this property near Brewarrina, is drying out for lack of rain. Picture: Angus Whyte GRAZIERS on the lower Darling and the great Anabranch have been urged to be cautious and conservative in making use of floodplains after the current flood recedes.
