The government is considering the introduction of a modern navigation lock system to ease the movement of rising water vessel traffic at the Mongla Port.The US expressed keen interest in funding and implementing the project during a series of recent meetings between the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Bangladesh Shipping Ministry, and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).USACE is the authority responsible for maintaining the inland waterways of the US. The corps has significant experience building and maintaining navigation locks, including on the Mississippi River.
