South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries has started the construction of the first of two future corvettes for the Philippine Navy. Hyundai held a steel cutting ceremony at its manufacturing facility in Ulsan, South Korea, on May 11, sources told the Inquirer. A technical inspection and acceptance team traveled to South Korea to witness the event. The steel cutting for the second corvette will be held in November, sources said. The keel laying for the first corvette, or the construction of the ship's hull, will also be in the same month.
