It's yet another blow to our society and the commercial fabric of Tairawhiti. I write to express my sympathy, empathy, gratitude and moral support to the owners of both Gisborne Herald and Evans Meats. As a dedicated loyal customer and follower of both institutions, I am disappointed to see them withering under the ever-changing conditions afflicting our local economy. As a journalist and publisher myself, I hate to accept the modern state of the news industry, especially the encroachment of digital technologies and online reading trends, which have already spoiled the news media and I think robbed us of truly good, timely journalism.
