Three earthquakes were detected last Friday in Gilju, North Hamgyeong Province, where North Korea has conducted six nuclear tests. This year alone, 19 earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 or higher have occurred there, and 26.8 percent of the 71 earthquakes that struck the Korean Peninsula this year have been concentrated near the nuclear test site. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the earthquakes occurred at around 3:30 a.m., at 4:00 a.m. and 5:10 a.m. within a 50 km radius of Gilju.
