China's cabinet Friday passed guidelines for the renovation of 'urban villages' in megacities in its latest move to boost the economy. Active and steady renovation of urban villages — neighborhoods that developed out of rural villages during the urbanization of large cities and are often homes for migrants seeking cheap rent — is an important measure to improve people's livelihood, expand domestic demand, and promote high-quality urban development, a State Council meeting chaired by Premier Li Qiang said.
