Dementia Action Week (18-24 September 2023) is a national awareness-raising campaign that challenges common misconceptions about dementia. Dementia impacts almost half a million Australians and with Australia's ageing population, this number is estimated to more than double over the next four decades. It is now the leading cause of disease burden for Australians aged 65 years and older. While ageing is the biggest risk factor for dementia, it is not a normal part of ageing. The theme 'Act Now for a Dementia-Friendly Future', emphasises the importance of building awareness and acceptance of dementia in the community.
