Andrew Theriot Needs Your Help — Times Publishing Group, Inc.
On Saturday morning, July 23, Andrew Theriot, 37, had a grand mal seizure at his home in Aptos with his wife, Stephanie, and their daughter, Audrey. He had a quick succession of seizures within the next hour until he was able to be sedated at the emergency room at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He was transferred to the intensive care unit later that day. He remains intubated and in a medically induced coma. At this time, there are many more questions than answers and his doctors are determining whether he can be removed from sedation and whether he will need to be transferred to a hospital that can offer more specialized care.

Raíces y Cariño: Families Are Welcome! ━ Times Publishing Group, Inc.
On Oct. 9, Raíces y Cariño, a community collective for families, opened its doors Sunday with an open house at 1205 Freedom Blvd 3B, Watsonville. Director Nora Yerena hangs carriers for the onsite baby-wearing library. Directors Nora Yerena and Juliana Reyes are proud to connect their community to support the strength families have. Yerena has been an activist for families her whole life, with degrees in family sciences and ethnic studies, and certification as a family life educator. She's seen firsthand how difficult it can be to transition in the first few months of parenting – she's a doula and mother of six – and how much of a joy it can be when families have their village of necessary support and community.

Aptos Little League completed a rare sweep of all three District 39 tournaments as each division won their respective brackets this summer. How unusual is this? Manager Troy Cope high-fives Dominik Castillo as he rounds 3rd after his home run at Harvey West during the 12-year-old All Star tournament. The Board of Supervisors will be considering the annual budget at a set of upcoming budget hearings. While there were some positive indicators with revenues recovering from the pandemic impacts, some challenges still remain. The Proposed 2023-24 Budget is based on the County's adopted six-year strategic plan for 2018-24 and the proposed two-year operational plan for 2023-25. Two newer Omicron subvariants BQ1.1 and BQ.1 are now more pervasive than BA.5, the variant included in the new bivalent booster for this fall along with the original 2020 coronavirus, which is no longer circulating. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reported BQ1.1 in the lead comprising 25.5%, then BQ.1, 24.2% and then BA.5, 24%. Researchers say the new Covid-19 variants are more spreadable but there is no indication they make people sicker than their predecessors. The U.S. is averaging 300 deaths a day, compared to 3,000 last winter when the Delta variant raged.

Jeff Rodrigs in Paradise ━ Times Publishing Group, Inc.
Paradise means something different to each of us. For Jeff Rodrigs who has multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair, his hometown of Capitola is Paradise. On a typical morning, Jeff is off to Mr. Toots Coffeehouse, one of several cafes he visits in Capitola Village. Jeff happily grabs the opportunity to meet and greet people. 'Have a good one,' and 'Hi there,' he beams to people, whether strangers or friends. His face and wheelchair are well known by the locals. People stop and chat with him, especially at the Capitola Wharf where he often enjoys his mocha macchiato.
