VIDEO: Guam Virtual Tour: Gef På'go
Stroll through the culturally rich village roads of the south or take a dip in the island's most well-known natural pool – all from the comfort of your screen! Staffed mainly by elder Chamorros who demonstrate traditional Chamorro arts, crafts, and cooking to visitors, Gef Pa'go Chamorro Cultural Village is modeled after a community from the 40s and 50s, when the Chamorro lifeways were more prevalently practiced. Gef Pa'go is maintained by the historic Inalahan Foundation in an effort to preserve local culture and pass down traditions to younger generations.

Korean Kitchen: Why Koreans use metal chopsticks
Since their invention in ancient China more than 3,000 years ago, chopsticks have been widely used in Asian countries. In South Korea, 'jeotgarak' means chopsticks. Being an important tool for dining, Koreans learn to use 'jeotgarak' as infants. Koreans consider the handling of chopsticks a necessity for good table manners, and for children and adults alike, table manners are very important. This even extends to the manner in which the chopsticks are presented in the table setting: in Korea they are placed vertically on the table.

Better Safe than Sorry: What to do when an earthquake hits while you're in Japan
Japan is globally known as 'earthquake country.' The Japanese archipelago actually sits on a spot called the 'Ring of Fire' where four earthquake-causing plates overlap and smush into each other, causing the country to be so prone to quakes. So what if an earthquake hits while you are in Japan? In a country as prone to earthquakes as here, you can never assume that the ground won't shake during your stay. Let's go over the three most important points so that you're prepared for an actual quake: what to do during an earthquake, what to do right after an earthquake, and what to do during an evacuation.

Hokkaido Dairy – The cream of the crop
Historically, Japan has never been a large-scale dairy producing country. However, in the Northern Island of Hokkaido, some of the finest milk, cream and cheese are attracting global interest. At the forefront of Hokkaido's dairy produce is its famous milk, 60% of which is used for whole milk and the remainder for other dairy products. The cool climate, fresh air and plentiful grazing land make for ideal conditions which help Hokkaido contribute to more than half of all of Japan's milk production.

Annie's Chamorro Kitchen: Delicious fruit pizza with a cookie crust
This fruit pizza is one of my favorite desserts. I have another fruit pizza version here, which adds a creamy, pudding-based filling. So delicious! You can make this into a fruit tart, just cut the recipe in half and use a tart pan. It's a fun recipe to make with kids too! Give my recipe a try. I think you'll like it. Ingredients Crust: 1 cup confectioners' sugar 3 cups all-purpose flour 3 sticks unsalted butter, softened Filling: 2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened 1 cup granulated sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Topping: Fresh strawberries, kiwi slices, blueberries, mandarin orange slices Glaze: 1 (6-ounce) can frozen limeade concentrate, thawed 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice ¼ cup granulated sugar Instructions Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

If the majority of posts on my page didn't already give it away, I'm a Colorado boy. I've been to the top of  the state's highest points , I've rafted down the mighty Arkansas River through the Royal Gorge, I've been to some of the  best breweries in the state , and yes, half of my closet is either Marmot or Patagonia flavored (don't @ me). What I enjoyed most about Colorado though, were the beautiful,  picturesque landscapes  that God himself spent a little extra time crafting–some on the sides of the road, some in the  National Parks .

The largest of the five are Yamanakako and Kawaguchiko which are also the busiest thanks to the many hotels, sports and resort facilities they are host to. Saiko, Shojiko and Motosuko, the three other lakes remain untamed and surrounded by the tangled and wild Aokigahara Jukai forest. Okinawan, mainland Japan traditional sweets real treat
If you have sampled the traditional sweets of Japan, you might have been surprised how different the tastes – and ingredients that include sweet potatoes, sweet beans and rice - are from Western sweets. These sweets are not only savory, but generally extremely fancy and beautiful. They usually are served with tea and are used for temple ceremonies, offerings and gifts. They also have a deeper meaning to the Japanese. The traditional sweets supply nourishment to the heart, according to Mitsuo Yabu, managing director of Traditional Japanese Sweets Association.

Okinawa longevity cuisine: Trendy food for a long life
It has been said that food is the soul of a country. This couldn't be truer for Okinawa. A mix of favorable natural conditions and diverse foreign influences produced unique eating habits and a cooking style that is now known as 'Okinawan cuisine'. The southernmost of Japan's 47 prefectures, Okinawa is a chain of over 150 islands stretching out from the southern tip of Kyushu Island to close to Taiwan over a distance of 1,000 km in the South China Sea. A sub-tropical climate in most parts, ensuring temperatures of over 20 degrees throughout the year and high levels of rainfall, Okinawa boosts a rich ecosystem with a diverse flora and fauna.

Much ado about island's yummy kadu
There's nothing like lifting the lid off a hot pot of steaming yumminess and breathing in the savory smell of spices, vegetables, meat or even coconut. For me, that mouth-watering steam is not the only heat; I am also warmed by fond memories of my grandmother's homemade soup. Whether nostalgic or not, there is something universally heart, as well as belly, warming about a piping hot bowl of soup or stew simmered to perfection. It's no different even on Guam where temperatures rarely dip below the 70s.

'Entering this room will entail entry into a hostile area and possibility of injury or death as a direct result of enemy action.' So, you're stationed/living in South Korea, and you've heard day in and day out that North Korea is off limits. Digging into Guam's history: Ancient Chamorro body modification
Tooth staining Unlike clothing or hairstyles, body modifications are changes made to the body itself that are of a more permanent nature. Among the Chamorro people, the most remarkable examples of these kinds of modifications were tooth etching and staining. The Spanish missionaries described women as going to great lengths to stain their teeth as a sign of beauty. While betel nut chewing itself will stain teeth, the Chamorros did it purposefully, especially on the tooth's visible surface. This purposeful staining was achieved by applying other substances, in a process mentioned by the missionary, Father Peter Coomans.
