Okarche plays way into semis
Okarche was closer to getting beat by the sunrise than by Wister. The Warriors punched their way into the Class A baseball semifinals EARLY Friday morning by eliminating second-ranked Wister 5-0 in the quarterfi nals at Edmond Memorial High School. The game was originally slated to begin at 6:30 p.m., but Wednesday rains pushed Thursday's scheduled start tine to 8:45 p.m. The teams didn't actually take the field for the fourth and final quarterfinal until about 11 p.m. When they did, Easton Roby took care of business as the sophomore limited Wister to just two hits.

Dutton refl ects on 1st season; looks forward to growth
It was a year of change for the Kingfisher High School softball program and one that its coach hopes is just the beginning of the growth. It was a team with a new coach, new turf, a new baby (see Page 1) and a mostly- new lineup. The 'new' Lady Jackets were knocked out of the Class 4A playoffs just over a week ago when they were defeated 6-0 by Dickson in a regional tournament. The season saw KHS finish with a 14-17 record. The team was 3-9 in District 4A-1 games, placing it sixth out of seven teams.

Kingfisher High School is once again selling reserved seats for home varsity basketball games. The seats - the blue chairbacks located in the middle portion of the lower section of the south side of the APB - will go on sale Monday, Oct. 2. They will be $50 apiece. County baseball, softball teams get set for playoffs
Regular seasons are winding down for the small-school softball and baseball teams this fall, meaning the playoffs are near. The OSSAA recently released the district assignments for Classes A and B in those two sports and they'll begin this week. In Kingfisher County, the Okarche baseball team is the only local team that will host a district. The Warriors were ranked 10th in Class A with a 15-3 record heading into this weekend's Ripley Tournament. All three of Okarche's losses are by one run…and to highly-ranked teams.

[Photo by Chris Simon/ www.simon-sports-photos.smugmug.com] For some reason, Clinton just had Kingfisher's number on the softball diamond this season. The Lady Reds completed their district sweep of KHS on Tuesday by winning 3-2 with a walkoff run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Grace Meacham's bunt proved to be the game winner as Clinton's Baliegh Giblet beat Kinlee East's throw to the plate.

Matthews walked and then scored when Kinlee East was able to reach on an error in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift KHS to a 3-2 victory over Okarche in the Highway 81 Classic. Recalling glory days
Time can be a disconnect. People can drift. Memories can fade. One generation might not be fully aware of the ones before it. A connection was made Wednesday evening inside and out of the Donovan Boutwell Center on the Kingfisher High School campus. And, for some, the memories came rushing back as well. A handful of players from the KHS state championship football teams of 2003 and 2013 gathered for a photo session with the seniors of the 2023 season that kicked off Friday night. Those from the 2003 title team were Kody Miller, Marcos Ortega, Steven Wilson, Robby Pool and Tanner Richards.

It was a matter of when, not if. The 'when' proved to be the third quarter. Second-ranked Lomega ran away from No. 9 Calvin 78-55 Thursday night in the Class B girls quarterfinals at State Fair Arena. Dressing just seven players, Calvin kept up for much of the first half and trailed by just six points at the break. Then the third quarter happened. Abby Swart began the onslaught with a 3-pointer, a sign of things to come. Darcy Roberts and Sydni Walker followed with buckets of their own and Lomega's lead was quickly up to 13 points.

Varsity golfers 7th at Broncho Invitational
It's not unusual to see Kingfisher High School golfers on the range or putting green at their home course late in the afternoon. It is a bit odd after they've already played an 18-hole tournament. But that was the case Wednesday after the Jackets shot 331 at the Lake Hefner Golf Club North Course to finish seventh in Bethany's Broncho Invitational. 'We've had better days,' coach Chris Combs said. 'When we got back, many of them went back to work on the driving range.' Senior Blake Hill led Kingfisher's charge with a 4-over-par 76.

KHS earned just enough breathing room down the stretch Tuesday for a 39-29 win at the APB. The Lady Jackets made five of their six 3-pointers in the second half and limited Blanchard's opportunities to earn the Western Conference win.
