What's the right vitamin for your lungs? It's Vitamin K, so have your leafy greens, says study What's the right vitamin for your lungs? It's Vitamin K, so have your leafy greens, says study If you have been battling respiratory issues and asthma and wondering if you have been taking enough of vitamins A, B, C and D, you may have been looking in the wrong direction. Going by latest research, Vitamin K may be your shield for lung health. A Danish community study of 4,092 adult men and women has shown that low levels of functional Vitamin K in the blood aggravated respiratory symptoms, increased the risk of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and raised the odds of lower lung functions on a spirometer.

After crackdown on cattle-smuggling, Indo-Bangladesh border sees spike in wildlife trafficking
Two weeks ago, the Border Security Force in West Bengal's Nadia district seized an unusual consignment along the Indo-Bangladesh border: a group of long-legged birds with white necks, black plumage and long beaks. Markedly different from their usual seizure of contraband smuggled across the international border, the soldiers posted at the Hardaypur outpost had never seen such birds before. In the darkness of dusk, the smugglers fled, leaving behind a long wooden cage, too small to accommodate seven birds, each nearly two feet in height.

Bundesliga season opener: Bayern held 1-1 by Gladbach
Defending champion Bayern Munich opened the Bundesliga season with a 1-1 draw at Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, with the hosts incensed at the referee for denying them a late penalty. Dayot Upamecano twice looked like he conceded a penalty in the late stages of his Bayern debut, but referee Marco Fritz waved play on and received no contradiction from the video referee despite clear contact from the French defender on compatriot Markus Thuram on both occasions. 'He makes contact above, he makes contact below.

Bolsonaro visits indigenous lands in Amazon despite protests
Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro visited two indigenous reservations in the Amazon on Thursday for the first time as head of state, despite protests from some tribal leaders against his drive to open up their protected lands to commercial mining. Bolsonaro, flanked by army officers and wearing a feather head-dress, watched members of the local Tukano community perform a ritual dance at the Balaio reservation, where he inaugurated a bridge. Regional indigenous leaders from the upper reaches of the Rio Negro river said they were not invited to see Bolsonaro and that he only met with unrepresentative chiefs in a photo opportunity for his re-election campaign next year.
