A collaborative effort brought Mental Health & Music on Main to Helper City's Rio Theater on Thursday, Aug. 10. This event came to life between the Helper City Fire Department, the Southeast Utah Health Department and the HOPE Squad of Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties. 'Partners from all around Carbon County came together to support one another, educate the community on services offered and to promote events that are coming up in the community,' stated Amanda McIntosh. The months of August and September prove to be busy for recovery and suicide prevention.

By Julie Johansen As the Huntington City Council meeting began on Wednesday, June 21, a citizen spoke to the council with concerns about slick places on the city's splash pad. He voiced a concern that the youth playing there could fall and be injured. The council assured him that it would be looked at and taken care of immediately. Three business licenses were then approved; Antea USA, Inc., an environmental health and safety consulting company, Unlimited Electric, Inc., owned by Jason Mayne, and Halliday Wood Work.

Best Friends Animal Society Press Release National Dog Day is Saturday, Aug. 26, and with dogs in shelters currently being killed at a higher rate than years past, it's an ideal time to talk about how people can help save the lives of homeless canines across the country.   Every day in the United States, more than 450 dogs are being killed in shelters simply because they don't have homes. That's about 20 dogs every hour at shelters across the country.   'Dogs bring joy and unconditional love to our lives, but the great paradox right now is that we are literally killing our best friends,' said Julie Castle, CEO, Best Friends Animal Society.

The Lady Dinos welcomed the Lady Rabbits to meet at the net on Thursday evening. Carbon was hoping to continue their impressive winning streak, but Delta broke the mold. From the first set, Delta held a slight advantage, ending two points ahead at 26-24. This continued in the second set, with the Lady Rabbits racing ahead of Carbon with a five-point lead, 25-20. In the first set, Delta secured the win with 25-22. The Lady Rabbits took the win with 3-0. The Lady Dinos (13-3, 8-2 Region 12) will look to bring back their winning ways when they travel to Canyon View on Tuesday, Oct.

At the annual Eastern Utah Women's Conference , a Woman of the Year is traditionally announced. For 2023, Amanda McIntosh was given the honor. McIntosh is well-known in the community as an advocate of all things hope. McIntosh and her daughter, Abbigale, lost their husband and father to suicide, and McIntosh now acts as an advocate for suicide prevention in many ways. McIntosh works to bring awareness through her position at the Southeast Utah Health Department, as the Vice President of the HOPE Squad of Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties, and through her position on the Utah Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

On Sunday, the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) released information regarding a fatal motorcycle crash that occured on SR-191. Troopers responded to the single-vehicle motorcycle crash at mile post 256 located in Indian Canyon. At approximately 11:45 a.m., a group of motorcycles was traveling southbound when the rider of a blue Yamaha R6 lost control. The rider crashed into the embankment and the 40-year-old male received fatal injuries from the collision. As a contributing factor of the crash, speed is being investigated.

The Lady Dinos lost their season opener on the road on Thursday to Union. The Cougars came out strong to open the season, winning the non-conference game 3-1. Carbon will look to work out any kinks before their next away game, which will be on Tuesday. The Lady Dinos (0-1) will travel to Millard (1-0) for a 4 p.m. matchup.

Students in the welding program took home gold in the individual welding contest as well as the team welding fabrication contest. 'After months of hard work and dedicated practice, our students all got the results they deserved,' said Austin Welch, assistant professor at USU Eastern and welding team advisor.

DWR News Release The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was enacted in 1973 to establish protections for fish, wildlife and plants in the U.S. It has prevented the extinction of hundreds of imperiled species and promoted the recovery of many others. With the ESA now in its 50th year , here's a look at four fish species currently listed under the ESA and how several agencies are working to recover them. There are currently 17 wildlife species in Utah on the federal endangered species list, with nine listed as endangered and eight listed as threatened.
