An unlicensed driver will face court today charged after allegedly speeding away from a random breath testing site and crashing into another vehicle near Kempsey. Just before 8pm on Sunday (1 October 2023), officers from Mid North Coast Police District were conducting random breath testing in Lord Street, East Kempsey, when they signalled for a Mercedes sedan to pull over. The vehicle allegedly accelerated towards police before speeding away from the site. Following inquiries, the Mercedes was located abandoned at the intersection of Belgrave and Smith streets, after it crashed into a Ford Falcon sedan.
