University of Toronto study to aid parents in preparing for RSV vaccinations
Two new ways to protect children from respiratory syncytial virus, better known as RSV, may soon be available in Canada - and a University of Toronto researcher aims to ensure parents can make an informed decision about vaccination. Even though the majority of children will get infected by age 2, "most parents do not know about RSV," says Tiffany Fitzpatrick , an assistant professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and a member of the Centre for Vaccine-Preventable Diseases . She's heard from parents who only learned about the virus - which has a similar seasonal pattern to the flu and symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and fever - after their child caught it.
