PUTRAJAYA, Aug 9 — The number of live births in Malaysia increased by 13 per cent to 105,961 in the second quarter of 2023 from 93,799 births in the corresponding period last year, according to the Demographic Statistics released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) today. Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin, in a statement today, said male babies outnumbered female babies in the second quarter of 2023 with 54,747 births compared to female babies at 51,214 births. 'Selangor recorded the highest live births with 20,477 births, while Labuan recorded the lowest at 357 births,' he said.
