CLEWISTON, FL. -- FPL has announced the beginning of construction of the Caloosahatchee Solar Energy Center south of State Road 80 in mid-Hendry county this month. The solar cell installation will be comprised of 250,000 photovolatic solar panels providing 74 megawatts of power and cover 500 acres of land west of Everhigh Acres Road on the south side of SR80. There may be extra traffic in the area during the construction phase. It is expected to be complete by the spring of 2024 and FPL says upon completion it will not require staff for daily operations.
