KUALA LUMPUR (June 13): At the current imposed ceiling price, refiners are producing coarse sugar at a 31% loss amid higher raw sugar and natural gas prices, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub. Before the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (June 13), Salahuddin said sugar refiners have been facing issues concerning production costs since 2021. 'The situation regarding raw sugar and natural gas prices in the global market is getting bleaker in 2023,' Salahuddin added, noting that raw sugar prices increased 134% to RM2,646.
