AI guidance for UH faculty and staff
The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Excellence created Guidance on artificial intelligence ( AI ), a resource for faculty, researchers and staff to address academic integrity, assignment and assessment redesign, UH System resources and related policies. The guidance was created in response to the advent of AI tools, such as ChatGPT, GPT-4, Microsoft's Bing and others, that raise new questions and challenges for academia. 'Whether it is the research that we conduct or the instruction of our students and even the ways that we all do our daily work, there is no doubt in my mind that artificial intelligence will play an increasingly important role,' said UH Mānoa Provost Michael Bruno.

$2.18M to diagnose autism, ADHD, mental health conditions using AI
Wouldn't it be helpful to have a tool that can help identify potential cases of mental health conditions and developmental issues? Imagine the amount of people that could be helped earlier with powerful instruments and aids as part of that diagnosis. Diagnosing mental health conditions and developmental delays such as autism and ADHD in individuals through video may one day be possible using artificial intelligence ( AI ) and is the focus of a new University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa project. This public impact research by Assistant Professor Peter Washington from the Information and Computer Sciences Department is funded by a $2.

Hawaiʻi astronomers part of $11M grant to design software for new space telescope
A new space telescope designed to search for exoplanets and do groundbreaking cosmology is set to deploy by 2027. A University of Hawaiʻi astronomer is co-leading a team that was recently awarded $11 million to develop critical tools for NASA 's trailblazing Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (Roman). The telescope will focus on the search for planets as well as aim to unravel the secrets of dark energy and dark matter, and explore infrared astrophysics. David Rubin, an assistant professor in the UH Department of Physics and Astronomy, and his team will design software needed to process observations of thousands of supernovae or exploding stars that Roman is expected to discover, helping to measure and explain how the universe has expanded and evolved.
