King Charles's candid moments reveal more royal emotion
King Charles spent Thursday in private, away from the public for the first time since his mother's death.  After a day of high ceremony and high emotions on Wednesday as the Queen's coffin was carried in sombre procession from Buckingham Palace, the King was said to be working and in private reflection at his Highgrove residence in western England.  In addition to being in the public eye and dealing with his own personal grief for the past seven days, he's also faced a somewhat sharper scrutiny with his new role.

Why the Nuluujaat Land Guardians' counterclaim against Baffinland is unique in Canada
And it's made possible thanks to environmental legislation unique to Nunavut and the N.W.T., which allows people to take up claims of environmental damages within the territories on behalf of everybody who uses the area. I can't think of a case where the defendants have basically turned around and used it as an opening of a door to get some of their arguments and concerns before the court, said Ben Ralston.  Ralston teaches at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law and has previously taught environmental law, and at the Nunavut Law Program.

Ontario won't declare a public holiday for Queen Elizabeth's death
Ontario will not declare Monday a public holiday for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral next week, Premier Doug Ford's office confirmed Tuesday. Instead, the province will mark Sept. 19 as as provincial Day of Mourning for Ontarians. People can observe a moment of silence at 1:00 p.m. ET that day, Ford said in a statement. This will give all Ontarians an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable life of Queen Elizabeth II and her unrelenting commitment to service and duty, reads the statement. Ford's decision notes opting against a holiday will allows students to stay in school and learn about the contributions the Queen made to the people of Ontario and the entire Commonwealth, as well as the accession of King Charles III.

'Indigenous representatives had no voice' at Quebec City Papal event, say Haudenosaunee delegates
On Wednesday, Pope Francis arrived in Quebec City as a part of his six-day pilgrimage of healing, reconciliation and hope. Louise Herne and Kenneth Deer were among the diplomats and Indigenous representatives invited to the Citadelle, the fortress overlooking the Plains of Abraham and St. Lawrence River, for one of the scheduled papal events.  The Indigenous representatives had no voice in that event, said Kenneth Deer, who is from Kahnawake, a Kanien'kehá:ka community south of Montreal, and a member of the Haudenosaunee External Relations Committee.
