Georgia Institute of Technology Mosquitoes are some of the fastest-flying insects. Flapping their wings more than 800 times a second, they achieve their speed because the muscles in their wings can flap faster than their nervous system can tell them to beat. This asynchronous beating comes from how the flight muscles interact with the physics of the insect's springy exoskeleton. This decoupling of neural commands and muscle contractions is common in only four distinct insect groups. Designing buildings with solar cleverly incorporated into the design has just become easier, thanks to software developed at RMIT University. Building-integrated photovoltaics, or BIPV, are building features such as roof tiles, cladding and windows that double as solar panels. The world's largest study on light exposure and its impact on mental health, with almost 87,000 participants, has found that increased exposure to light at night increases a person's risk for psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, bipolar and PTSD severity as well as self-harm. Importantly, the study also found that increasing exposure to daytime light can act like a non-pharmacological means for reducing psychosis risk. In those exposed to high amounts of light at night, the risk of depression increased by 30 per cent – while those who were exposed to high amounts of light during the day reduced their risk of depression by 20 per cent.

The Commission unequivocally condemns the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel over the weekend. Following these events, the Commission is announcing today that it is launching an urgent review of the EU's assistance for Palestine. In addition to the existing safeguards, the objective of this review is to ensure that no EU funding indirectly enables any terrorist organization to carry out attacks against Israel.
