Sharing stories about fatherhood while their children play has been a bonding experience for stay-at-home dads James Salter and Toby Barrett. School bullies have driven a 50% surge in the number of desperate young people seeking help from a specialist mental health unit in the past year. The Emotional Health Unit based at Mater's South Brisbane campus is now seeing 20 patients a month seeking help to deal with serious anxiety and depression linked to bullying. The centre treats adolescents and young adults aged 16 to 25 is calling on parents to look out for the signs of bullying during Queensland Mental Health Week (7-15 October). The NSW Government will move forward on critical reforms to strata laws this week, implementing changes to make the system fairer and more transparent. Strata laws govern community living arrangements like apartment buildings or townhouses, they put owners corporations in charge of making key decisions on repairs, maintenance or collective sales. Australia's peak retail body, the Australian Retailers Association (ARA), has proudly partnered with the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) to launch a vital course for retail and hospitality managers to combat workplace sexual harassment. The Understanding and Addressing Workplace Sexual Harassment for Retail and Hospitality Managers course is designed to educate retailers on the impact and drivers of workplace sexual harassment and aid them in addressing it when it occurs. ARA CEO Paul Zahra said addressing the issue of sexual harassment is a top priority for retailers.

The National Farmers' Federation today announces the first three products to be certified under the Australian Farm Data Code. In an important milestone for the Code, Pairtree Intelligence, FarmSimple, and Western Australia's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development all had products certified. The Code is the first of its kind in Australia, intending to inform the data management policies of product and service providers who manage data on behalf of farmers. NFF Vice President and Chair of the new Certification Panel, David Jochinke, said the voluntary Code was a yardstick for farmers to easily evaluate what can be an overwhelming minefield in data terms and policies.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has received several enquiries and correspondence over the last fortnight asking for the Montreal Process Working Group (MPWG) to call for certain Australian jurisdictions to 'uphold' sustainable forest management, or the criteria and indicators that underpin reporting on it. The MPWG was formed to advance the development of internationally agreed criteria and indicators for the conservation and sustainable management of temperate and boreal forests.

New Zealand will continue to support maritime safety in the Pacific through the provision of $12 million funding over the next four years for the Pacific Maritime Safety Programme (PMSP). The programme delivers maritime safety initiatives to seven Pacific Island countries - Cook Islands, Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga and Tuvalu. The funding, from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2026, marks the fourth phase of the programme. The PMSP is a Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade programme, funded through the International Development Cooperation programme and delivered by Maritime NZ.

That's the warning from University of South Australia (UniSA) architect and infrastructure expert Dr David Ness , who has been campaigning for more robust building emission measures in the CBD and beyond. Dr Ness says the proposed 2036 City of Adelaide Plan and Greater Adelaide Regional Plan are based on high growth, including built floor area, defying global efforts to decarbonise the buildings sector and address the climate emergency.

Griffith's Memorial Gardens will come alive with music, market stalls and activities for kids on Saturday 28 October 2023 when Sounds of Spring is held. Organised by Griffith's Youth Advisory Group (YAG), the free event will run from 5pm to 9.30pm. Event coordinator, Lara Rossetto said Sounds of Spring was born from YAG's desire to create a new family friendly event celebrating young people in Griffith. "We have so many talented young musicians in Griffith and we thought this would be a good way to showcase and support them," Ms Rossetto said.
