The Commonwealth Bank has cut more than a thousand jobs in the last year, with more to go after a downturn in retail banking over the past six to 12 months which the CBA says has impacted "Everyday Banking" and "Home Buying Operations." Police are seeking public assistance to locate a 46-year-old woman missing from Cape York in Far North Queensland. Nicole Anita Lutton was last seen at a cattle station in Cape York around 9am on October 4 and was believed to be travelling to Innisfail and then on to Townsville to see family. She may have been in the company of a 65-year-old man, who is known to her. A 38-year-old man appeared in Hastings District Court today in relation to a serious incident involving two children in Havelock North on 5 October. The man has been charged with kidnapping, threatening to kill and assault. He has been remanded in custody to appear again on 31 October. Queensland's 2023 sugarcane harvest has finally hit the halfway mark with over 50% of the estimated 30.1 million tonne crop now cut and crushed at the state's 19 sugar mills. Rain early in the season, combined with below par mill performance, had delayed the crush in some districts, but the long expected El Nino has brought ideal harvesting conditions, enabling many districts to make up ground in recent weeks. Tableland district, which kicked off this year's crush on 21 May, is now on the home stretch, as is Bundaberg, with both districts having crushed more than 75% of their crop.

A study has been launched to enhance safety and connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians in Yarragon and Trafalgar, with community members invited to get involved. A man has died as investigations continue into a stabbing in Sydney's south-west. Just after 9pm on Sunday 1 October 2023, emergency services were called to Woodward Crescent, Miller, following reports of a stabbing. On arrival, officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command found an 18-year-old man suffering serious wounds to his neck. Responding officers performed CPR before the man was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition. A holiday in Japan made for thin conditions but the early bid was for bonds and the safe harbors of Japanese yen and gold, with the euro the main loser.

The Albanese Government's expanded Home Guarantee Scheme is helping a growing number of Australians into home ownership, according to new research released today. The National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation's Trends and Insights report reveals the expanded Scheme helped 41,700 Australians to purchase a home in 2022-23, the first full financial year of the Albanese Government. The number of guarantees issued under the expanded Scheme was 39 per cent higher than the previous financial year.

The NSW Government is prioritising road safety on The Grand Parade in Sydney's south, with the introduction of 3 new fixed speed cameras to help prevent further road fatalities and serious injury. Two cameras will be installed from November at Brighton-Le Sands near Gordon Street and a third camera will be installed at Sans Souci near Alice Street, following an urgent review conducted by Transport for NSW. The new cameras will help prevent excessive speeding or 'hooning' in the area and follows the tragic incident in August in which 2 young boys died when the car they were travelling in lost control and hit a tree.
