As New Zealanders prepare to commemorate Anzac Day, unearthed love letters from a soldier to his future wife show how they got him through World War I. When Lieutenant Lindsay Inglis left Wellington for Egypt on the HMNZT Tahiti in 1915, his future wife was among the spectators farewelling the ship. He was one of 120,000 Kiwis who defended their country in World War I. Inglis, who had been training to be a lawyer at the time, was separated from May Todd for years while he fought with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
