Jim Faed: Directed blood donations are blood donations that are arranged by an individual, family or group of people for a named person. Directed blood donations are rare in New Zealand. Most requests for directed donations have come from parents who wanted to provide blood for their newborn baby or infant before surgery or some other health procedure.
