MANILA, Philippines—As stressed by the government in 2020, 'terrorism is a grave challenge to security and the human rights of individuals; it leaves destruction of societies and lives in its wake.' This was the reason that as the Philippines is still considered highly impacted by terrorism despite its improvement in the 2023 Global Terrorism Index (GTI), the government committed to having the country removed from the list of terrorism-affected countries. Based on the GTI, which is produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), the Philippines improved its rank from 16th in 2021 to 18th in 2022 after having an overall score of 6.
