More than a month after the MT Princess Empress sank off the waters of Oriental Mindoro and spilled toxic fuel oil, local fishermen continued to bear the brunt of the tragedy's impact on their livelihood and the environment, different groups said on Monday. A coalition of scientists and environmental groups that conducted research on the effects of the oil spill on the communities reported that the affected residents complained the oil leak and fishing ban 'were worse than the COVID-19 pandemic' since they had been prevented from catching food for their families' consumption.
