A fast-moving blaze burned through 5,200 hectares in the Bega Valley, destroying some of the first homes of this fire season. The Prime Minister visited the bushfire-hit area just 24 hours after the vicious fire, which also destroyed three homes. Memories of the black summer fires still linger in the community, which is facing what is predicted to be a horror season ahead. Anthony Albanese was on the fire ground, praising the efforts of local volunteers. "We can smell, we can see the impact that these fires are having, and that would be having a triggering response for people who went through such a traumatic time during the summer of 2019 2020," he said.
