CEBU CITY, Philippines — Since the Philippines is a tropical country, coconut is among its primary crops. The coconut industry is one of the vital sectors of agriculture in the country. According to Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), sectoral council of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), there are 69 out of 82 provinces in the Philippines that are producing coconut. Moreover, PCAARRD also stated in its official website that 'among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, the Philippines is ‘the second largest producer of coconut' comprising 'almost 40 percent ASEAN's total coconut production.
