PhD student at UCLA Ashley Schoenfeld says geophysics provides an interesting focus for physics and mathematics. She secured a summer internship at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Pasadena and was given the task of preparing a geomorphology map of Saturn's moon Titan using radar data. This led to interest in the Cassini mission and its discoveries including another of Saturn's moons, Enceladus. Geysers at the moon's south pole shoot icy material into space. Enceladus is located within Saturn's icy E-ring.
