Korean and U.S. security officials are poised to meet for the first time under the umbrella of a new nuclear consultative group in Seoul later this month. The establishment of the group was agreed by Presidents Yoon Suk-yeol and Joe Biden in Washington in April. The inaugural session is likely to include deputy national security adviser Kim Tae-hyo and Kurt Campbell, the coordinator for Indo-Pacific affairs in the White House. It coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice on July 27 and sends a message to North Korea that the allies are ready to confront its nuclear threat.
