Steps are yet to be taken to mitigate future risk to Gisborne's main water pipeline during the repair phase following Cyclone Gabrielle, the district council has revealed. The council also does not have a time frame for fortifying the pipeline, or a specific budget for how much that would cost. It says the latter depends on scoping options and confirming costs. From February 13 to April 5, Gisborne was in a water crisis due to multiple breaks in the Waingake pipe — the city's main network which suffered severe damage during the cyclone.
