Fifty-five crews are working on roads, bridges and river protection, as well as debris and silt removal and clearing drains across the region. This from the Gisborne District Council weekly update on rural roads reinstatement work. The council described last week as another challenging one with the weather disrupting the work programme. In the Hikurangi area, metalling started yesterday on Poroporo, Kemp and Wharekahika roads. In Lottin Point Road resilience work continues. Heavy rain has slowed progress on Waikura Road, but culvert clearing and replacement have started.
