Earthquakes Getting More Frequent in Korea
A 3.5 magnitude earthquake in Jangsu, North Jeolla Province on Saturday afternoon brought the total tremors measuring more than 3 on the Richter scale to 10 in Korea so far this year. From 1999 to 2021, 10.5 earthquakes of that magnitude, which can be clearly felt in people's homes, happened on average across the whole year, but now as many have rattled the country in just seven months.A quake stronger than 3 can trigger aftershocks and augur even stronger tremors down the road.  During the month of May alone, around 50 cluster earthquakes were detected off the coast of Gangwon Province.
