U.S. President Joe Biden agreed Wednesday with his South Korean counterpart Yoon Suk Yeol on plans for Washington to send nuclear submarines to its major ally for the first time in four decades as part of efforts to bolster extended deterrence measures in response to North Korea's growing nuclear threat. Biden and Yoon, who is on a state visit marking the 70th anniversary of the bilateral security alliance, released a joint declaration to make unequivocal the U.S. commitments to South Korea's defense, including enhancing military training and forming a group of senior officials to discuss nuclear issues.
