New Study Suggests Global Warming Could be Mostly an Urban Problem
CERES team A new study published in the scientific peer-reviewed journal, Climate , by 37 researchers from 18 countries suggests that current estimates of global warming are contaminated by urban warming biases. The study also suggests that the solar activity estimates considered in the most recent reports by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) likely underestimated the role of the Sun in global warming since the 19th century. It is well-known that cities are warmer than the surrounding countryside.

Electric vehicles catch fire after being exposed to saltwater from Hurricane Idalia
Essay by Eric Worrall h/t James Stagg; The Idalia vehicles were apparently flooded with salt water. My question – could salt spray from a windy day at the beach also trigger a deadly battery fire? 'Saltwater exposure can trigger combustion in lithium-ion batteries. If possible, transfer your vehicle to higher ground,' the Palm Beach fire department wrote in a Facebook post.  Two electric vehicles in Palm Beach, Florida caught fire after being exposed to saltwater from Hurricane Idalia, according to reports.

True, Indianapolis Star, 'Climate Change is not ‘Theoretical,'' but Its Connection to Extreme Weather Is
From Climate REALISM The  Indianapolis Star  (IndyStar) published a story claiming climate change is causing dangerous weather changes in Indiana. Climate change is a fact, but data shows, contrary to what is implied by the expert interviewed by the IndyStar, that neither flooding, nor hot temperatures have become more extreme or common in Indiana than they have been historically in the state. IndyStar reporter Karl Schneider interviewed Gabe Filippelli, executive director of Indiana University's Environmental Resilience Institute, for his story, ' Climate change not ‘theoretical, or even debatable,' an IU expert says.

YouTube Bans Heartland Institute's Channel Just Before Live-stream with Climate Scientist Judith Curry
Note: this is the backstory to what happened yesterday while I was moderating the live interview. We discovered while we were live that the YouTube stream was blocked, now we know why. – Anthony By Jim Lakely Originally published January 6, 2023 at Heartland.org The censors at YouTube justified striking down Heartland's channel because we supposedly uttered 'misinformation' about the 2020 Election. We did not. And that is very suspicious timing. Every Friday at Noon CT, The Heartland Institute hosts a live program we call Climate Change Roundtable.

17 years of near-zero trend in September sea ice demolishes claim that more CO2 means less sea ice
Susan Crockford If the  hottest year ever  can't precipitate ‘ice-free' conditions in September, what's it going to take? Arctic sea ice failed to nose-dive again this year, undoubtedly disappointing expects who have been anticipating  a ‘death-spiral'  decline for ages. Arctic sea ice hit its seasonal low sometime  around mid-September  this year and although the precise value hasn't been published, the average September ice coverage will likely be about 4.2 mkm2 once it gets announced in early October.

More on the statistical dispute between Scafetta and Schmidt
By Andy May The argument about the proper way to estimate error in the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) ERA5 weather reanalysis dataset between Nicola Scafetta and Gavin Schmidt has finally been published by Geophysical Research Letters . Schmidt, Jones, and Kennedy's comment is here (Schmidt, Jones, & Kennedy, 2023), and Scafetta's response is here (Scafetta N., 2023a). I first wrote about this dispute earlier in the year here . Nothing much has changed in the final versions.
