Washington, Aug 6 : Three people were killed and two others wounded in a shooting in Southeast Washington D.C., police said. As per Pamela A.Smith, acting police chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to gunshots at around 8 p.m.(0000 GMT Sunday) in the 1600 block of Good Hope Road, Southeast.They found five victims — four males and one female. Two males and a female were pronounced dead on the scene.The other two males were taken to local area hospitals, with their conditions unknown.

Srinagar, Aug 4 : Three soldiers have sustained injuries in an ongoing encounter between terrorists and security forces at Halan forest area in the higher reaches of south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Friday. 'Three jawans got injured in the encounter. They are being evacuated to hospital for treatment.Search in the area intensifies,' police said. The firefight started after a joint team of police and security forces got an input about the presence of terrorists in that area. After security forces cordoned off the area, hiding terrorists started firing, drawing retaliation by the security forces leading to the encounter.

New Delhi, July 30 : Three teenagers, who were swept away in the Yamuna river in north Delhi's Alipur, have not been found despite several hours of rescue operations, officials said on Sunday. The teenagers were identified as Rishu, 14, Shivam,13, and Rupesh, 13, all students of same school. According to the information, on Saturday afternoon, five children from Singh village on the outskirts of the village went to bathe in the Yamuna river, but three were swept away by the strong current. The two, who managed to reach the riverbank, returned to their respective homes without informing anyone about the tragic incident.

Mumbai, July 17 : After a massive operation of nearly 28 hours, the bodies of three minor boys, who drowned in the Marve Creek at Malad west, were recovered on Monday afternoon, the BMC Disaster Control said here. They were among five who had entered the Marve Creek to clean themselves after playing football on the beach and apparently got trapped in the currents in the swirling waters during the high tide around 9.45 a.m.on Sunday. While two boys were rescued safely by the local fisherfolk and police teams, three had gone missing, said the BMC.

Los Angeles, Dec 29 : Nearly 48,000 child Covid-19 cases were reported in the US in the week ending December 22, the third consecutive weekly rise in child cases, according to the latest report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children's Hospital Association.Nearly 15.2 million children in the country had tested positive for Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic, Xinhua news agency reported.Nearly 165,000 of these cases had been added in the past four weeks, and the reported cases were likely a 'substantial undercount' of Covid-19 cases among children, said the report.
