3D printer unit sales drop but demand for high-end metal AM systems boosts revenues
Inflation and increasing demand for high-end metal additive manufacturing systems helped to boost industrial 3D printer revenues this past quarter as unit sales fell across the globe, according to the latest report from market intelligence company CONTEXT . Shipments varied across different machine classes and industries, while inflationary price increases propped up revenues across the gamut, resulting in an overall total system revenue growth of 15% on the previous year. While the industrial machine segment (those costing upwards of 100,000 USD) saw shipments fall by -15% (YoY), the category held a 54% majority of the industry's overall system revenue, and saw revenues rise by 11% (YoY) due to greater demand for metal 3D printing hardware.

Students at University of Sheffield break record with 3D printed rocket engine
Students at the have created a liquid rocket engine, similar to the kind used by space companies such as SpaceX , using 3D printing. The ‘SunFire' engine, developed by a team of engineers and science students, is the first metallic 3D printed liquid rocket engine to be built and successfully tested by students in the UK according to the university. The engine, which the university says is the most powerful student-built engine of its type, uses both fuel and an oxidiser rather than breathing in oxygen like a jet engine.

Additive manufacturing used to create high-tech jewellery
Jewellery brand Eternha is combining traditional materials of the jewellery industry and craftsmanship, such as natural hard based stones, precious and non-precious metals, with polyamide based hi-tech composite materials used in the most advanced industrial sectors. 'It is a brand-new project, never realised before,' said Eternha founders Stefano Massimilliano Maragoni and Chiara Cistriani. '50% of our investments are focused on product quality. The rest is innovation, eco-sustainability and the search for harmony between materials and colours.

Ukrainian dental firm deploys Photocentric LCD 3D printing technology to produce aligner models
Ukrainian dental aligner company Usmih has established an additive manufacturing workflow to produce aligner models that comprises of Photocentric's LC Magna 3D printer and a conveyor belt system. Usmih is also leaning on Photocentric's 3D printing resin offering to print the aligner models, with the company expecting its process to be ready for full production in Q1 of 2022. While the company is remaining coy on how its workflow runs, it decided to align with Photocentric because of its capacity to ‘enable large-scale production at a competitive cost'.

XJet delivers first Carmel 1400M metal 3D printing system to Azoth
On-demand additive manufacturing service Azoth has received the first commercial XJet Carmel 1400M metal 3D printing system. Azoth is supported by the EWIE group of companies (EGC) who are specialists in high volume metal manufacturing for the likes of Ford, Rolls Royce, Chrysler and John Deere. The company was established when EGC leaders saw the potential of additive manufacturing. Having surveyed the market for a metal additive manufacturing technology that could address demand for small, complex and high-definition parts which could not be produced with powder bed fusion or binder jet systems, Azoth decided to pursue XJet's Nanoparticle Jetting technology.
