3 suspected of torturing, throwing man off cliff near Pahrump
Nye County investigators believe a Las Vegas man was beaten, thrown off a cliff and shot because a woman believed that the man had hurt her child. Roy Jaggers, 27, of Las Vegas was found dead Sunday in Cathedral Canyon, near Pahrump, according to Nye County Sheriff's Office deputies. Investigators from the Metropolitan Police Department and the Sheriff's Office spoke to Jaggers' mother who said the last person he was in contact with was a neighbor named Heather Pate, 27, of Las Vegas. Deputies said that after detaining Pate and her boyfriend, Kevin Dent, 36, of Las Vegas they discovered evidence that Pate and Dent lured Jaggers to Pate's home, believing he had hurt Pate's child.

A Bublé Vegas residency a natural — if it happens
Michael Bublé residency talk is bubbling up. A great idea, but not a done deal. If Michael Bublé ever does perform a residency in Vegas, we should call it, 'Well, Duh.' Because he's that obvious a fit for an extended run on the Strip. Reports have surfaced from media outlets in Bublé's home country of Canada, spurred by unconfirmed posts in Las Vegas, that Bublé is set for a run at the Theater at Resorts World Las Vegas. ET Canada posted over the weekend it 'can confirm Michael Bublé is heading for a residency at Resorts World sometime in 2022.

Shadow Ridge soccer to honor late student with ‘Yellow Out'
Brian LaVoie stood in front of yet another group of Shadow Ridge freshmen on Tuesday delivering the same message he has for more than a decade. Always wear your seat belt and never drive distracted or impaired. The Shadow Ridge boys soccer coach has spread that message since his daughter Hillary died in a car crash Sept. 26, 2010, at age 18. She was said to have always worn her seat belt but momentarily took it off and hadn't put it back on when a friend, distracted by her cellphone, lost control of the car.

Raiders-Broncos line move not because of Jon Gruden's departure
After Jon Gruden resigned as Raiders coach Monday night, the line on Sunday's game at Denver moved from Broncos -3 to -3½ and has since climbed to -4 at the Westgate SuperBook. But SuperBook vice president Jay Kornegay and other Las Vegas oddsmakers said Gruden's sudden departure didn't impact the line. The Raiders' poor performance in Sunday's 20-9 home loss to the Chicago Bears did. 'It's very rare that we would move numbers based off a coaching change,' Kornegay said. Arbor View got off to a slow start before recovering to defeat Legacy on Saturday. The Aggies can clinch second place in the Class 5A Desert League with a win Friday. After missing last week's game because of COVID-19, Arbor View was back in action with a 9 a.m. Saturday kickoff at Legacy. Arbor View coach Matt Gerber said before his players arrived at 5:30 a.m., he hadn't seen about three-quarters of them since last week because of COVID-19 protocols. That, and the early kickoff, made for a ragged start, but the Aggies recovered for a 31-8 win.

HONOLULU — Cruising along the west side of Hawaii's Big Island, the landscape is dominated by ancient volcanic flows and jagged shorelines. Then you get to Hapuna Beach. There, the contrast of black lava rock, white sand and blue water means you have arrived in paradise — at least that's what 'Dr. Beach' believes. 'It's like an oasis,' said Stephen Leatherman, who has been ranking U.S. beaches on his annual list under the alias 'Dr. Beach' for three decades. The sand 'looks super white there because of the black lava beside it,' he said.

Goals have kept the Golden Knights from reaching the Stanley Cup Final each of the past two seasons. They scored eight in five games against the Dallas Stars in the 2020 Western Conference Final. They had 13 in six games in the 2021 semifinals against Montreal, including nine in their last five. The Knights decided something had to change. So they freed up cap space by trading veterans Marc-Andre Fleury, Ryan Reaves and Nick Holden and used a good chunk of that money to bring in right wing Evgenii Dadonov.

The Nevada State Democratic Party paid tens of thousands of dollars this year to a firm owned by an ally of the party's new leader. From April to August, the party paid Silver and Blue LLC nearly $34,000 for 'IT and communication services,' federal campaign finance records show. Chris Roberts, a supporter of state party Chair Judith Whitmer, registered the company with the state less than two weeks after Whitmer's election in March. Whitmer insists the spending was proper and part of an effort to make the party functional after former party staffers quit and left her with few resources.
