Opinion: Health Care 2023 — Be Proactive, Focus on Daily Health – Inside Sources
As we start to emerge from the dark COVID cloud, there were some rays of sunshine in terms of the progress that healthcare made in 2022. Congress acted in a bipartisan manner to fund research and vaccines and, oddly enough, spent little energy arguing about whether people deserved healthcare or not. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, signed into law by President Biden in August, included important health provisions. Among them: lowering prescription drug prices in Medicare through price negotiation with manufacturers; requiring drug companies to pay rebates if prices rise faster than inflation for drugs used by Medicare beneficiaries; capping out-of-pocket drug spending for beneficiaries in Medicare Part D at $2,000 annually; and extending for three years the enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies that Congress passed last year as part of the American Rescue Plan Act.

A Tale of Two Crashes – American Renaissance
While I was covering the Waukesha Christmas Parade murder trial for American Renaissance, I was struck by similarities to the case of James Fields, the white man who drove his car into a crowd of protesters on August 11, 2017, at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Both Darrell Brooks and James Fields were accused of the same crime: using a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash that killed and injured people. The Fields case was politicized while the Brooks case was not. Here is a comparison of the two cases; judge for yourself whether our justice system works.

King Charles III crowned with regal pomp, cheers and shrugs – Associated Press
King Charles III was crowned Saturday at Westminster Abbey, in a ceremony steeped in ancient ritual and brimming with bling at a time when the monarchy is striving to remain relevant in a fractured modern Britain. At a coronation with displays of royal power straight out of the Middle Ages, Charles was given an orb, a sword and scepter and had the solid gold, bejeweled St. Edward's Crown placed atop his head as he sat upon a 700-year-old oak chair. In front of world leaders, foreign royals, dignitaries and a smattering of stars, the monarch declared, 'I come not to be served but to serve,' and was presented as Britain's 'undoubted king.

Map of border surveillance towers shows growing ‘virtual wall' along US southern border – Cronkite News

(Photo courtesy of Electronic Frontier Foundation)  U.S. Customs and Border Protection is aggressively expanding a 'virtual wall' of border surveillance towers in the Southwest, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which is mapping the locations of each tower along America's southern border. 'We started creating our own map, and it became clear that this would be a useful resource for other people, including journalists, researchers, advocates and humanitarian workers,' said Dave Maass, director of investigations at the foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting civil liberties in the digital age.

GOP election officials walking fine line on fraud, integrity – Associated Press
Photo: Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft speaks to reporters on June 29, 2022, at his Capitol office in Jefferson City, Mo. The Republican secretaries of state in Ohio, West Virginia and Missouri have promoted their states' elections as fair and secure. Yet each also is navigating a fine line on how to address election fraud conspiracies as they gear up campaigns for U.S. Senate or governor in 2024. The split-screen messaging of Ohio's Frank LaRose, West Virginia's Mac Warner and Missouri's Jay Ashcroft shows just how deeply election lies have burrowed into the Republican Party, where more than half of voters believe Democrat Joe Biden was not legitimately elected president.

No Longer The Fringe: Small-Town Voters Fear for America – Associated Press
Photo: John Kraft sits next to his yawning cat, Tux, at his hilltop farmhouse in Clear Lake, Wis, A word — 'Hope' — is stitched onto a throw pillow in the little hilltop farmhouse. Photographs of children and grandchildren speckle the walls. In the kitchen, an envelope is decorated with a hand-drawn heart. 'Happy Birthday, My Love,' it reads. Out front, past a pair of century-old cottonwoods, the neighbors' cornfields reach into the distance. John Kraft loves this place. He loves the quiet and the space.

Texas border city struggles with large arrival of migrants – Associated Press
Photo: A Border Patrol vehicle and bus are parked near a staging area near the U.S.-Mexico border in Brownsville, Texas Shelters in a Texas city struggled to find space Saturday for migrants who authorities say have abruptly begun crossing by the thousands from Mexico, testing a stretch of the U.S. border that is typically equipped to handle large groups of people fleeing poverty and violence. The pace of arrivals in Brownsville appeared to catch the city on the southernmost tip of Texas off guard, stretching social services and putting an overnight shelter in an uncommon position of turning people away.

Abortion bans raise fears inside GOP about backlash in 2024 – Associated Press
Photo: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis speaks to supporters before signing a 15-week abortion ban into law Thursday, April 14, 2022, in Kissimmee, Fla. As a new election season begins, the Republican Party is struggling to navigate the politics of abortion. Allies for leading presidential candidates concede that their hardline anti-abortion policies may be popular with the conservatives who decide primary elections, but they could ultimately alienate the broader set of voters they need to win the presidency.

Opinion: Disney Is Going To Lose (Again) To Florida and Ron DeSantis – Josh Hammer
The first round of the 'Florida and Gov. Ron DeSantis v. The Walt Disney Company' fight, held last spring, ended in a clear DeSantis victory and Disney defeat. Following Disney's vocal opposition to Florida's commonsense Parental Rights in Education Act, misleadingly dubbed the 'Don't Say Gay' bill, Florida passed a law to abolish the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which in 1967 incentivized Disney's initial planting of a flag in Central Florida by giving the corporation unparalleled government-like powers over basic municipal services such as zoning, building codes and waste treatment.

Horses came to American West by early 1600s, study finds – Associated Press
In this photo provided by the University of Colorado-Boulder, Lakota archaeologist Chance Ward examines horse reference collections in the Archaeozoology Laboratory at the University of Colorado-Boulder  The horse is symbolic of the American West, but when and how domesticated horses first reached the region has long been a matter of historical debate. A new analysis of horse bones gathered from museums across the Great Plains and northern Rockies has revealed that horses were present in the grasslands by the early 1600s, earlier than many written histories suggest.

Opinion: How to Save Europe – American Renaissance
[Disclaimer: The views expressed in opinion pieces on the PrescotteNews website are solely those of the authors. These opinions do not necessarily represent those of the staff of Prescott eNews or its publisher.] Ten years after Australia stopped illegal immigration once and for all, will the United Kingdom be the first major European country to follow its lead? Australia's  Operation Sovereign Borders  has shown that when a government is serious, it can stop the influx not only over land borders but also at sea, something European countries have never been able to do.
