Ephrata police have reported that an accident with an SUV left all five of the vehicle's occupants seriously injured.The crash happened on Sept. 6 near the intersection of Parkview Heights Road and Bethany Road in Ephrata Township. According to police, the SUV was being driven by Matthew Hill, 26, of Ephrata. Hill lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, and the accident left four of the five occupants of the SUV trapped inside.Rescue personnel were able to free all of the passengers, and all five were transported to Penn Medicine - Lancaster General with 'serious injuries' according to the police department.

The total number of crashes reported in state police jurisdictions during Memorial Day weekend is up from 2019, but the number of injuries and deaths are down, according to data released Tuesday.State police investigated 844 crashes during the four-day Memorial Day holiday driving period, which police monitor with special enforcement efforts from May 28 through May 31. The data from these efforts do not encompass all crashes reported in the state, only the ones investigated by state police.During that period, eight people were killed in crashes, and 183 people were injured, police said.
