Pfizer announced Thursday morning that it has submitted a request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Emergency Use Authorization of its COVID-19 vaccine in children under 12. In a tweet, Pfizer said, "We're committed to working with the FDA with the ultimate goal of helping protect children against this serious public health threat." The announcement comes after the company announced positive results from a pivotal trial on Sept. 20, 2021. In the trial, which included 2,268 participants 5 to 11 years of age, the vaccine demonstrated a favorable safety profile and elicited robust neutralizing antibody responses using a smaller two-dose regimen.

Parts of the Hudson Valley will see the first autumn freeze overnight as well as Wednesday and Thursday nightsA frost advisory has been issued for north of I-287 in Westchester in addition to all of Rockland County. A freeze warning has been issued for Orange and Putnam counties. Temperatures will be in the mid-30s, but it will be colder north and west under clear skies. Wednesday will see mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the low-50s. There could be frost or possible hard freeze in areas north and west as temperatures drop into the upper-20s to mid-30s.

She will be holding a roundtable discussion with Long Island labor leaders in Hauppauge.They will focus on job training, green jobs, school safety and supporting essential workers.Gov. Protesters gathered in East New York on Saturday to call for a change in how the city funds the NYPD and the community. Groups of people lined up on Pennsylvania Avenue and demanded the mayor and the City Council decrease funds to the NYPD and reinvest into communities that have been impacted by what they call 'repressive policing.'Robert Cuffy, who took part in the rally, says if these changes were made, the community would look very different.'It would be a world where people's needs would be taken care of… where people don't go to bed hungry,' Cuffy says.

Long Islanders came together Friday in Westbury to collect donations and raise money to help the thousands fleeing the violence in Afghanistan.The fundraiser was held at the Islamic Center of Long Island. Dozens of volunteers sorted through hundreds of donations to help Afghan refugees.The drive was organized by Wazma Wardak Hassan, who is the COE of Afghan Americans of New York. Hassan's family members were directly impacted by the Taliban takeover and remain trapped in Afghanistan."My uncle who is a professor there was taken by the Taliban beaten horrifically and then just tossed," says Hassan.

The Islanders and the NHL announced that a watch party is set for Islanders fans outside the Nassau Coliseum on Monday. The Islanders tied up the Stanley Cup Semifinal in dramatic fashion Saturday night at the Nassau Coliseum. The series heads to Tampa Bay on Monday for Game 5. A Bronx nonprofit is now helping connect businesses and nonprofits that suffered with funding and technology through the pandemic."Summer on the Hill" received a grant that helped to purchase iPads for their students.The program recruits bright and motivated low-income students and allows them to take classes at a private school.The organization's website has 7,000 grants posted in many different categories and locations.
