From a groundbreaking role as environmental justice coordinator to measuring the effects of climate change on Adirondack lakes, Graduate Center scholars are leading the drive to protect our planet.  Katera Moore Alumna Katera Moore ( Ph.D. '14, Earth and Environmental Sciences ) became Delaware's first environmental justice coordinator . Moore will work closely with underserved communities, who, she says, are at higher risk from environmental pollution and climate change. Graduate Center Students Win Prestigious Dissertation Fellowships
This spring, Graduate Center doctoral candidates won several prestigious fellowships, ranging from $25,000 to $50,000, to support their dissertation research and writing. The fellowships include two from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), two from the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation, and one from the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The fellowships are highly competitive and to merit them, candidates must demonstrate the excellence and importance of their research projects.

This spring, the Graduate Center's Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences program honored Susan Nittrouer with its Distinguished Alumni Award. The developmental psycholinguist has devoted her long career to understanding how children learn language. 'I'm honored,' said Nittrouer, a professor of speech, language, and hearing sciences at the University of Florida, and director of the school's Hearing Research Center. From the first woman of Asian descent to join the piano faculty at Juilliard, to a professor whose experience in Japan helped shape her work on maternal mental health, we are celebrating our scholars during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.   Soyeon Kate Lee (Photo credit: Lisa-Marie Mazzucco) Soyeon Kate Lee (D.M.A. '18, Music ) became the first woman of Asian descent to join the piano faculty at the Juilliard School .
