KUALA LUMPUR: The term discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) which is being used in court during the prosecution process for criminal cases is often misinterpreted by many parties, especially by those without a background in law. Universiti Teknologi Mara legal advisor Dr Haidar Dziyauddin said such a situation sparks speculation and leads to negative perceptions of the authorities and judiciary, when the meaning of DNAA is not properly understood, along with the objectives behind the legislation.
