CAMERON—Robert A. Clayton Jr. of Temple died Dec. 5, 2022, in Temple. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Clayton was born to Ester and Robert Clayton on May 11, 1939, in Milam County. He attended school in Rogers and O.J. Thomas School in Cameron. Mr. Clayton retired from Alcoa in 1993. He was the first black supervisor. He professed Christ at an early age and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church at his time of death. Survivors are his daughters, Lillie Clayton, Carol Washington, Janet (Gregory) Sculark, Brenda (Terri) Majors and Regina (Robert) Hardy; a son, Robert Clayton III; his brothers, Otis D.

Visitation with rosar y was held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Mass of Christian burial was on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rockdale with Father Pedro Castillo as celebrant. Burial followed at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with full military honors. Mrs. Davidson was born June 8, 1933, in Salem, Ohio, to Robert and Mary Bloor.

Ken Esten Cooke, owner of The and publisher of the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post, was installed as president of the Texas Press Association during the organization's 144th Convention and Trade Show held at the Kalahari Resort in Round Rock. Cooke was presented the gavel by outgoing president Leonard Woolsey, president of Southern Newspapers Inc. and publisher of the Galveston County Daily News, and eight other past presidents of the organization who were present at the convention. Cooke has roots in the organization as his great grandfather, John Esten Cooke, served as the TPA president in the 1920-1921 term.

He grew up in the Salty community and graduated from Thorndale High School, where he excelled at football, baseball and track. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially when sports were involved. He was a dedicated Texas Longhorn fan, and it could be said that he bled orange. Billy and Judie Marie Munoz were wed in Cameron on Nov. 23, 1977. They were blessed with 45 years of a loving and happy marriage and lived in Taylor for the past 43 years.

Seth Douglas Arthur Hirt, 71 of Rockdale, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at his home in Rockdale. No services or visitation are planned foll owing his wishes to be cremated. Mr. Hir t was born April 11, 1951, in Cameron to Lester and Judy (Smith) Hirt. He was a graduate of Rockdale High School and received his associate's degree in drafting. On July 11, 1970, he married Margarett Ann Nolen at First Baptist Church in Rockdale. Mr. Hirt was employed 20 years with IGC in Rockdale, working in the maintenance department.

Jerry Lee William Shelton Sr. was born on Christmas day in 1949 at his Grandmother's home in Lexington. He was raised by his grandmother, Toni Shelton, and his father, Lee Roy. Jerry departed this world on June 5, 2023, at the age of 73 at his daughter's home in Tanglewood. Jerry attended Lexington HS but had to drop out to help support his grandmother. Jerry had a love for making other people feel important. He went out of his way to make others smile and laugh. Jerry loved gardening, tending to his flowers, and making wooden toys for his children and later grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Monday, June 19, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Past or Steven Ammons officiating. Burial followed in Milano Cemetery. Ms. Willis was born to Ben and Myrtle (Burgess) Ford on May 13, 1939, in Rockdale. She took an early retirement from Electronic Data Systems Ms. Willis in Dallas in 1995. She was employed at their Austin facility where she worked in the financial department.
