NEW SES CAMPAIGN IN SIX LANGUAGES
A new public information campaign focused on diverse communities in flood-prone areas has been launched by the NSW State Emergency Service (SES). Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience and Minister for Flood Recovery Steph Cooke said the new messaging includes video content and covers social media, radio and multicultural community newspapers. 'The campaign has been developed in the six languages of Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, Korean, Mandarin and Punjabi to help culturally and linguistically diverse communities around the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley understand what to do in the event of a flood,' Ms Cooke said.

‘Old, insanitary and ruinous'
In the early 20th century Sydney underwent rapid urbanisation, embracing modern buildings, new infrastructure and sanitation projects. Houses, pubs, stables, shops - and sometimes entire neighbourhoods - were demolished to make way for the improvements. A group of children pose in front of a ramshackle timber outbuilding on the corner of Sutton and Bourke lanes, at the rear of 170–172 Palmer Street, Darlinghurst in 1917. In the 1990s, buildings and streets here were obliterated to make way for the Eastern Distributor.

Want to make friends next door? Don't ask AI
"Hey AI, what should I say to get to know my neighbours?" That's what we asked a well-known artificial intelligence tool. Artificial intelligence has gone completely viral around the world over the past year, due to its remarkable ability to generate human-like text and perform language-related tasks. The tool promises to be conversational and is even able to engage in small talk. For many of us, introducing ourselves to the stranger next door or striking up a conversation with a neighbour in the lift is far easier said than done.

Cat lovers: Cat-urday Saturday is your chance to make a difference
Our animal shelter is at full capacity. Across Sydney, animal shelters and animal rescue groups are in crisis, full and overwhelmed with cats, kittens and dogs needing new homes. The high number of lost and abandoned animals continues to rise with more animals coming in each day. Many shelters are no longer accepting new intakes of animals due to overcrowding becoming a welfare issue. Adoption numbers are currently low and our own shelter facility currently has more than 150 cats and kittens seeking new homes.
