KUALA LUMPUR: Ahmad (not his real name), a tower crane operator, works up to 12 hours a day, six days a week. He is a full-time staff, yet he does not get Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (Socso) contributions from his employer. His concern for his safety and his family's welfare prompted him to buy his own medical card and make his own EPF contributions. He said, given his high-risk job, he was worried about getting into an accident and not having any medical coverage.
